Barriers & Turnstiles
Automated vehicle barriers, pedestrian turnstiles, and bollards for car parks, industrial sites, and controlled-access entrances.
What this covers
Open car parks attract the wrong visitors. Uncontrolled pedestrian access creates liability. Barriers and turnstiles give you a physical layer of control that cameras alone cannot provide.
Rising Arm Barriers
Automated vehicle access with boom arms rated for continuous cycling. Manual override and safety loops as standard.
Speed Gates
High-throughput pedestrian lanes for offices, reception areas, and car parks. Throughput capacity tested before handover.
ANPR Integration
Number plate triggered barriers remove the need for fobs in vehicle-heavy environments. Plate lists managed from your browser.
Anti-Tailgate Detection
Pressure loops detect attempts to follow an authorised vehicle through the barrier. Compliant with most insurance requirements.
How We Work
Traffic and access analysis
We assess vehicle and pedestrian flows, peak throughput requirements, existing access control, and what the barrier needs to stop.
Specification
We specify barrier type, width, height, anti-ram rating where needed, and integration with ANPR, access control, and monitoring.
Civil works coordination
We confirm groundwork requirements for concrete foundations and cable routes and coordinate with groundwork contractors where needed.
Installation
Barrier or turnstile installation, wiring, control panel setup, and ANPR or credential reader integration.
Testing and commissioning
Full cycle testing under load, integration checks with ANPR and access control, and safety system verification before the site goes live.

Common Questions
What is the difference between a boom arm barrier and a rising bollard?
Boom arms control vehicle flow but can be driven through or broken deliberately. Rising bollards provide a physical stop that a vehicle cannot pass regardless of intent or speed. For high-security perimeters or anywhere with a counter-terrorism requirement, bollards are the appropriate choice. For car parks managing authorised access, a boom arm is usually sufficient and considerably cheaper.
How does ANPR work in practice?
A camera reads the number plate as a vehicle approaches. If the plate is on the approved list, the barrier opens without the driver doing anything. Unrecognised plates do not trigger the barrier - instead they flag for a supervisor check or queue for manual release. The approved plate list is managed from a browser, so adding or removing a vehicle takes under a minute.
How do you stop pedestrians tailgating through a turnstile?
Turnstiles are mechanically designed to allow one person per valid credential - they cannot be pushed through by a second person. Speed gates rely more on deterrence and CCTV coverage. For environments where tailgating carries a genuine security risk, we specify full-height turnstiles rather than waist-height barriers.
How much maintenance do barriers need?
Moving mechanical parts need servicing - we recommend annual inspections on barrier mechanisms, ANPR cameras, and control panels. A barrier that fails because it was not serviced is a liability rather than a security asset. We offer maintenance contracts for all installed systems.

Other security systems we install

CCTV Installation
HD IP camera systems for commercial premises, warehouses, car parks, and multi-site operations. Monitored 24/7 or recorded locally.

Access Control
Keypad, fob, card, and biometric access systems. Control who enters which door, at which time, with a full audit trail.

Intruder Alarms
Grade 2 and Grade 3 intruder alarm systems, professionally installed and monitored by a NACOSS-approved ARC.
